In 2020, a team at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Health system analyzed clinical notes about symptoms taken during patient screening for COVID-19 and applied machine learning to this data in order to predict COVID-19 test results. This innovation supported population management by enabling MUSC to prioritize COVID-19 testing appointments in a data-based way.
